Vienna's new central international long-distance bus terminal is being built at Handelskai near the Stadion Center. In future, it will bring together long-distance bus transport in one location and complement the airport and main railway station as the third pillar of long-distance passenger transport. The direct connection to the A23 motorway and excellent accessibility by public transport will relieve congestion in the city centre and strengthen Vienna as a business and tourism location.

Specific features

  • Two levels with a clearly structured terminal organisation
  • Striking roof with glazed and green elements
  • Footbridge connection across the Handelskai and the ÖBB railway tracks to the banks of the Danube
  • Additional uses: hotel and, in the future, high-rise tower
  • Sustainable energy concept with greening and photovoltaics

The terminal will operate around the clock and is designed for high frequencies. Covered stops, spacious waiting areas, digital passenger information and services for travellers and bus drivers are planned. Barrier-free routing and modern security infrastructure create an efficient mobility hub.
